FinCEN 5.0 Assistance Last Updated: 6/11/2008.

FinCEN Assistance

Please Note: To complete the FinCEN Report, you first need to contact the FinCEN (Financial Crime Enforcement Network) at 1-866-556-3974 to set up a Username and Password for their website. Without this information, you cannot continue with the FinCEN Report in CompuShare.

Receiving File - Receiving File from FinCEN Website

Before you download the FinCEN file from the Financial Crime Enforcement Network, please make sure you have a FINCEN directory on the local "C" or "H" drive of the PC you are using for the download.

Follow the directions below.

  1. Get to the FinCEN Login Page.

    • You can visit this site by clicking here. A new window will open with the page you need. You can also type the following URL into your browser: www.fincen.gov/314a.

Please Note: As per the FinCEN website, please use the menu links on their site - not the browser navigation buttons. Data may be lost if you use the browser navigation buttons. Please be sure to follow this process step-by-step.

  2. Login into the website by entering the username and password provided to you by FinCEN.

    • Enter User Name and Password. Click "Log In" to continue.

  3. After you login in, you will be viewing the "Confidentiality Notice to All Institutions Receiving USA Patriot Act Section 314(a) Information Request" page. Click Accept only if you accept the conditions stated on this page.

  4. "Financial Institution Selection Menu" page - Make sure the option with your credit name is selected and click the Continue button.

  5. "Transmission Menu" page - Select the transmission date you wish to download.

  6. "Subject Menu" page - Click the .txt version on the "Download Data" line.

Note: You can view the person list by clicking on the link "View Person List" on Subject Menu page.

  7. "Subject Download Menu" - On this page, you will be downloading the plain text version of the file called Both. This will include both the Person and Business Lists. Click on Both to download the file.

You have now completed the process of retreiving the file. You need to save this file and continue with processing the FinCEN report.

Saving File to Computer - Using your Network or Local Computer

Follow the directions below.

  1. You are now ready to save the FinCEN File to a local or network computer. On the File Download form, click Save.

  2. Use the browser button to find the FinCEN Directory you created in step 1.
Save the downloaded file to the FinCEN directory by clicking on Save.

Note for 4.0 Users Only: You will need to rename the saved file since it will be longer than 10 characters long. The 4.0 system does not support long file names. Please rename the file with a name up to 8 characters with the extension of txt. For example, the long file name of 1121257270.txt could be renamed to 11212572.txt or fincen07.txt. You will have issues during processing if this is not changed.

  3. Download Complete - When the download is complete, click on the Close button.

You have now saved the FinCEN file to your computer. The next step is to run the FinCEN Search Report in 5.0.
